Kevin Ducoing

    ARTISTIC PROCESS

    ARTIST STATEMENT

Our ability to instantly interpret nuanced visual and tactile cues and quickly formulate a story is a wonderful thing most people don’t even need to think about. With scrubby strokes and scratches in my painting, my intent is to tap into our natural ability to see a story unfold in our own minds.

Letting body language, gestures of hands, textures, and nuanced color shift come together in a painting to speak to some potent, vivid life event, a moment in time is captured; a moment in time that defines you today, or one that may be redefining you even now.

The most exciting thing I find in showing my work is that the context of each personal story is different for each person, even as we attempt to share a similar human experience.

    ARTIST BIO

An artist living in West Seattle.

Kevin Ducoing has spent most of his life in the Pacific Northwest. Growing up a ‘Navy Brat’ (in a military family), much of his youth was spent in motion up and down the west coast, with a couple years’ side trip living in Nevada, getting to know the fascinating tenacity of nature in the desert. After his father retired from military life, Kevin's teenage years were spent observing the unique seasonal personality shift of Northwest Washington life, all set in a gorgeously stark and lonely natural setting. It should be noted that he was also going to school during all this time!

Painting has always been his primary form of communication, as a kid, and especially now.

He moved to Seattle in 1991, attended the Art Institute of Seattle, and was profoundly influenced by the teachings of Bill Cumming there.

Working many years in fine art reproduction, he has had rich meaningful interactions with many local artists, which helped spur him into entering a serious art career.

Kevin paints mostly in acrylics, but also employs mediums such as charcoal, sand, and latex paint. He stretches his own canvases and adds a textural component to them with the application of wrinkled paper adhered to the surface. This helps convey additional levels to the painting’s story.

He hopes that his work speaks to your own experience.

    Kevin is available for commission
