These paintings are little stories from a world where animals live a cozy, rural life, but one which is also sometimes unexpected and surprising. I try to portray them as living real, interesting lives, which we only see a portion of in each vignette. Each one has its own secret backstory. I want you, the viewer, to make up your own stories about them, and I want you to see yourself or people you know in them.
I have been interested in the natural world my whole life, and I find joy in seeing the tiny details in living things. As a child, I enjoyed books and the outdoors, and was influenced by the words and illustrations in stories like Watership Down, Charlotte's Web, and The Wind in the Willows.
I studied scientific illustration at the University of Washington and am a graphic designer for a non-profit healthcare organization. During the pandemic, I've had more opportunities to draw and paint. It has given me a chance to expand my skills and try new things that I might never have tried before.
